Alan’'s apartment was exactly what I'’d pictured: neat and tidy but warm and welcoming. I was sitting sideways on a stool at the bar, watching him hustle around the kitchen in his bare feet. “"Are you sure I can'’t help with anything?"
"“I'’m sure.”"
I shrugged, figuring I’'d only get in his way anyhow. He seemed to have a rhythm and a method to his madness. “"What'’re we having?"” I asked, spying him pulling a carton from the fridge.
“"Fettuccini alfredo with chicken.”"
“"Ah."” Crap, crap, crappidy, crap, crap!
"“Something wrong?”"
“"I'’m um…... I'’m lactose intolerant.”"
Alan grinned and turned the carton around to show me the front. “"It'’s Provamel. It’'s a soy-based heavy cream substitute that I get online. I’'m lactose intolerant too.”"
“"You'’re...…? Holy hell, man. Can we be any more perfect for each other?”" I closed my eyes, unable to believe I’'d just said something like that after knowing him a grand total of eight hours, most of which had been spent in a darkened theatre. I heard the fridge door shut, the carton bumping on the counter as he put it down, and then his footsteps coming toward me. I opened my eyes just as he took my face into his hands.
