"Even Guys Cry" is part of the "I Do, Two!" anthology
Derek is a transgender man who has been hurt more times than he can count. He's decided that all gay men are the same - totally freaked out by his "real" gender, and unwilling to accept him for the man he knows he can be. When hunky and oh-so-male Oscar invites him out for coffee, it seems too good to be true. But with a little patience and a lot of love from Oscar, Derek just might learn that gender has nothing to do with anatomy.

"I'm not gonna bite, yanno. Unless you want me to."
"Sorry, I'm just not used to this." To say Derek had been amazed when Oscar had come onto him in the bar, then asked him out for coffee, was an understatement.
"Talking?"
"Yeah. By now I'm usually on my back in someone's bed." Derek frowned, realizing how truly pathetic that sounded. Sometimes, the truth sucked.
"Well, if you'd rather" Oscar winked.
"No, thanks."
"No? Why're you surprised we're just talking, then? You told me at the bar that you weren't looking for sex."
"I'm not. I never am. It just..." Derek shrugged, having no idea why he'd started down this road of the conversation. "I dunno. It just happens."
"Well, it ain't gonna happen tonight. Least not with me."
"Oh yeah? Why not?" Derek challenged. What made Oscar so different, after all?
"I like to get to know a guy before I fuck him. Call me old fashioned, but I'm not a one-night-stand guy."
"What kind of guy are you, then?"
"Dinner, roses, movies. You know—--dates?"
Dates. There was a foreign concept. "I've never really been on a date. I mean... I did once, but it went badly." Derek shivered, recalling what he referred to as "the incident."
"He find out you weren't packin' at the last minute?"
"Packin'?"
"A penis."
"Oh...…" Derek paled. "Um...…"
"Hey, it's okay. You're trans. I'm cool with it."
