love is a many-flavored thing...
Who the heck is DC Juris?
Well, here's what my author bio says:
A Southern transplant who has retained none of his accent but all of his charm, DC Juris is an out and proud bisexual transgender man who moved to New York State in 2001 for a real-life romance. By day he is a mild-mannered office manager, by night a passionate writer of all types of romance. He lives in Upstate New York with his husband, four dogs, two cats, and a menagerie of Halloween props just creepy enough to keep people guessing about his sanity. Hopelessly single when it comes to the woman in his life, DC will gladly entertain offers.
Here's what I think: I am more than the sum of my parts. More than a vagina, more than a penis. More than a gender, more than a sexual preference. More than my abuse, more than my raising. I am stronger than anything anyone could do to me. I am wiser than they know. I will succeed where they said I'd fail. I will blossom when they think I'll wilt. I am me. There is no other like me on the face of the planet.
In in the writing world, I'm on my way to being a force to be recokned with. Behind my pen, I'm often uncertain. But on paper? Through my characters? Baby, I'm the coolest, most awesome badass you've ever met! ::wink::
"Dear Mom and Dad" is a personal memoir I wrote for submission to an "It Gets Better" type of project for writers. It was declined, so I have made it available here.
This piece details some of what I lived through in my childhood. It's by no means a comprehensive telling of everything that went on. At times, it's graphic. It's definitely not safe for work. Writing this piece was a very emotional experience. I've been through therapy, spoken about my childhood to many people. But I've never actually put it in writing. This project made me realize just how much power words really do have.
